Houjicha Green Sample Sachet
Houjicha is green tea that has been roasted rather than steamed, which turns it reddish brown and gives it a nutty, faintly smoky character with none of the grassiness people associate with green tea. The roasting also takes a good deal of the caffeine out. Ours is Australian grown.
It is the green tea you can drink in the evening, and that is usually why people pick this sachet. Four serves is enough to have it after dinner a few nights running, which is the only way to judge whether a low caffeine tea suits your evening.
Cool the boiled water to around 80 degrees and steep two to three minutes. Unlike most green teas it is quite forgiving if you leave it a bit longer, because the roasting has already taken the sharp edge off.
$3.50 for four serves, $16.00 for the 100g pouch. Houjicha in full size is here, and it also sits in the decaf and low caffeine collection if that is what brought you here.
