First flush Darjeeling is picked in March and April, straight after the winter, from one of the oldest and highest plantations in the Darjeeling hills. It is only lightly oxidised, so despite being sold as a black tea it drinks closer to a green one. Thin bodied, pale in the cup, floral in the nose.

This is the tea most likely to disappoint someone expecting a strong black cup, and most likely to convert someone who has never understood what the fuss is about. Either way it is worth $3.50 rather than $14.00 to find out which of those two you are.

Let the boiled water cool to around 90 degrees and steep three to four minutes. No milk. Milk destroys a first flush completely, and this is the one tea in the range where that is not a matter of preference.

$3.50 for four cups, $14.00 for the 70g pouch. Queen of Hills in full size, and the black tea collection has the Assam if you want the opposite end of India in the same order.
